Project 1 Art
To represent what nostalgia behind music feels and looks like for an individual, I decided to create a painting/collage. To start, I wrote down and sketched what my ideas were. I came up with the idea do incorporate vinyls (45s) into my piece to add the effect of music being involved in provoking past memories.
Using examples from other artists such as Julian Schnabel and Jasper John, I was able to get a good idea of how I wanted to use other materials such as 45s and paint together to make my piece. Once I had all my vinyls together I started to use gesso for a base. I cut out the side profile of my granddad and glues it onto the canvas. This was supposed to show what would be going on inside his head while he is listening to his music that takes him back through his past. I thought putting it this way would capture the most emotion. Once I had the base on my vinyls I started to sketch what my granddad told me he visualized. I added a scene of Woodstock, the crowd during the concert, Jimi Hendrix performing, and an up close of a guitar being played because thats what struck my granddads emotions the most. With two canvases being held together by glues vinyls, it was not easy to create perfectly, but I eventually got the main idea of what I wanted it represent.
Although the coloring is unfinished, this is my final piece:
